Punished for his mischief, going to bed without dinner, Max embarks on a symbolic journey from his room to a fantastical place, traversing a mythical time/space and confronting his fears. After becoming the king of monsters as fierce as they are friendly, he returns to his starting point, where dinner awaits him. A round trip, from reality to fiction, without anything or anyone explaining whether this metamorphosis was or was not the product of a dream.

First published in 1963, "Where the Wild Things Are" provoked some controversy due to the less-than-exemplary way in which children were portrayed. Nevertheless, it became a classic and an essential reference, and today it is one of the best-selling books of all time, translated into numerous languages.
